We arrived in Ghana in late October 2022. Nana Afoakwa Kyerewa I (aka Mrs. Hilda Bromley), the chief of the Dwumana Clan of Kukurantui, prepared for the annual Ahwie celebration. This celebration gives thanks to God for God's help and protection over the past year, and for the intecessory prayers of the Dwumana ancestors. This celebration was celebrated on November 10-12th 2022.
During November, we also contacted the librarians who have remained in communication with us. From their input, we ordered new books for their libraries from Sedco Publishing in Accra. We set up a date for our in-service in January.
In December, we helped Richard Amankwa, the librarian at Kukurantumi Library, to hold a six day Reading Contest for area students. This was successful with the winners reading from 16 to 32 books in 6 days, depending on their grade level. Everyone rececieved a prize for participating.
In January 2023, we held our in-service. This year we focused on teaching the librarians how to diagnois and help students with reading problems. We also addresseed the wide-spread problem in Ghana of poor reading comprehension. Each of the participating libraries received 164 new books, including 87 books in the Junior African Writers Series.
We distributed eyeglasses throughout our months in Ghana.
Nana helped organize local farmers whose land was being taken by the town chief and sold to strangers and big companies.
Nana continued to train and manage a drumming and dancing troupe made up of middle school students. The troupe performed during some local celebrations and funerals.
